When I came to see LUX 2013 light installation, I noticed the small cafe at\u00a0Hakasalmi Villa<\/a>.\u00a0Hakasalmi Villa<\/a>\u00a0was built in 1843 by the procurator and privy\u00a0counselor\u00a0Carl Johan Walleen as a combined city and country residence and is now Helsinki city museum. And there is a small cafe\u00a0Huvilan Kahvila<\/a>\u00a0on the left side of the museum building.<\/p>\n

1\u6708\u306e\u521d\u3081\u3001LUX 2013\u3068\u3044\u3046\u30a4\u30d9\u30f3\u30c8\u3092\u898b\u306b\u884c\u3063\u305f\u3068\u304d\u306b\u521d\u3081\u3066\u305d\u306e\u5b58\u5728\u3092\u77e5\u3063\u305fHuvilan Kahvila<\/a>\u30021843\u5e74\u306b\u5efa\u3066\u3089\u308c\u3066\u4eca\u306f\u30d8\u30eb\u30b7\u30f3\u30ad\u5e02\u306e\u7f8e\u8853\u9928\u306b\u306a\u3063\u3066\u3044\u308bHakasalmi Villa<\/a>\u3000\u306e\u7f8e\u8853\u9928\u306e\u5efa\u7269\u306e\u5de6\u624b\u306b\u3042\u308b\u3002<\/p>\n

The first thing which caught my eyes was the sign of the cafe. (You might be smiling looking at the photo on the top \ud83d\ude42 “mk” is Finnish markka (Mark), which had been the official currency in Finland before EURO was introduced in 2002. A friend and I tried to remember the exchange rate between mk and \u20ac and noticed that the cafe was kind \u00a0enough to put the price of a cup of coffee EURO in the sign as well as in mk \u00a0\ud83d\ude09 6mk = 1.01\u20ac \ud83d\ude42 And a cup of coffee was really 1\u20ac at the cafe.<\/p>\n

(Finnish businesses and banks have employed a method known as “Swedish rounding<\/a>” when tallying sums. Due in large part to the inefficiency of producing and accepting the 1 cent and 2 cent coins, Finland has opted to remove these coins from general circulation in order to offset the cost involved in accepting them…\u00a0<\/em>by wikipedia<\/a>)<\/p>\n

According to the article in some Japanese magazine which \u00a0was on the wall of the cafe,\u00a0<\/a>Huvilan Kahvila<\/a>\u00a0sticks to be “good old” Finnish style though it is a relatively new cafe opened in February 2012. No music, no Wifi, no laptops and no meetings in the cafe.<\/p>\n

Good old Finnish korvapuusti<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n

And there is no cappuccino (of course, good old Finnish cafe didn’t have cappuccino but Finnish coffee!) So, we had good old Finnish coffee (6mk!) and good old Finnish korvapuusti (cinnamon bun)! Korvapuusti was great being different from other shops’ or cafes’. I didn’t quite find out what was different in the\u00a0ingredients but a friend of mine said it has more eggs than other korvapuusti. It’s most likely so but we don’t know the truth \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

The Japanese magazine article talked about\u00a0donuts (I think it meant “munkki” if you know what munkki is \ud83d\ude09 which they start baking at 1am to get them ready at 7am when the cafe opens (it seems good old Finnish cafe used to open early in the morning for the people who enjoys coffee before going to work). I didn’t see any donuts and asked the lady at the counter about it and she told me it was only on Saturdays. Of course, I am thinking of going there on Saturday, not this week though \ud83d\ude09 We chatted a bit about the Japanese article as she didn’t know what was written there \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

I liked the tulips at the entrance and the tables of the cafe. I also liked the carpet. It’s a cozy good old Finnish cafe! Lovely to have it in Helsinki city center <3<\/p>\n
